The 4th annual Go Red Heart 5K Run & Walk in memory of Robin Seay took place this weekend at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina Pavilion in Mount Pleasant. Despite the cold and rainy conditions, everyone was in good spirits and looking forward to completing the course. It was evident from the conversations I had with many participants that this run is truly one of the favorites for dedicated runners in the Charleston area, especially because of the fun costumes some runners wear to run the race.
Marshall Ballard was the first male to cross the finish line in this year’s run, with a time of just 19:29! He should really get extra points for style in crossing the finish line:
Ashley Sisson was the first female to cross, less than a minute and a half after the first male, with a time of 20:49.
The Annual Go Red Heart 5K Run & Walk was started 4 years ago by Stephanie Seay Carter, and Dr. Marian Taylor, in honor of Seay Carter’s mom, Robin Seay, who died at age 47 of a heart attack. The certified 5K event supports the mission of Go Red for Women, which is to promote a heart healthy lifestyle for the entire family while educating the low-country about heart disease and stroke, which are, respectively, the first and third leading causes of death in the United States. Dr. Taylor and Seay Carter are pictured below:
It was both inspirational and fun to document the event, and I hope to see even more runners and walkers taking part next year! All photos from the race are presented in two sections below. The first section contains all the pre-run, run start, and awards photos. The second section contains all photos of participants crossing the finish line.
